West Jordan Citizens, We Need Your Help! (August 2015 Update)

LET'S START A RAW MILK DAIRY!

Do you live in West Jordan? Then we need your help! We are currently in the process of starting a dairy here at our farm to produce raw milk. In order to do so we are required to obtain a dairy permit from West Jordan City, which involves an in-depth discussion at their upcoming Planning Commission meeting. If you are excited about a raw milk dairy in West Jordan we would love your support! Please attend the meeting and let your voice be heard.

PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA

NEWEST ARRIVAL

It's always fun to have new animals on the farm. One of our dairy cows had a little heifer calf recently!

BULK ORDERS

Our next bulk orders will be available SEPTEMBER 17 & 19. Deposits are due Saturday, August 29 (TOMORROW)! Corriente & Angus beef, pork, and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

NON-GMO UTAH SWEET CORN!

Our corn is ready! We grilled some the other night and it was delicious. Remember - we don't spray with herbicides or pesticides & the crop is completely free of GMOs.

WATER FOOD - NOT HOUSES

We had the opportunity to participate in this study and the results are encouraging. We are so proud of Utah! Thank you for helping to spread the word on the importance of local farms & food. More and more citizens are listening!

Utahns Willing to Water Less to Get Crops, Not Homes on Prime Farmland

OUR VIEW FROM THE OFFICE

Our third crop of hay from the season was ready last week and we spent a number of hours out here. Blue skies, happy cows and many bales of hay to haul. We have a great supply of hay for our animals this winter.

DON'T BUG ME!

Farm work hazard: bugs crawling inside your shirt sleeve. Fortunately this was just a friendly praying mantis who hitched a ride while Farmer Shayn was picking corn. We returned him to the garden so he could get back to business.

CONVENTIONALLY RAISED BACTERIA BEEF

This latest study from Consumer Reports on the cleanliness of ground beef is unsettling, although not very surprising. Make sure you are buying local, 100% grass-fed ground beef for you and your family! Available at our farm store for $6/pound.

"...[B]eef from conventionally raised cows was more likely to have bacteria overall, as well as bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, than beef from sustainably raised cows. We found a type of antibiotic-resistant S. aureus bacteria called MRSA which kills about 11,000 people in the U.S. every year, on three conventional samples (and none on sustainable samples). And 18 percent of conventional beef samples were contaminated with superbugs—the dangerous bacteria that are resistant to three or more classes of antibiotics..."
